'365 Habits…' goes international with a Korean Translation!
Six years ago when I wrote & curated "100 Habits of Successful Freelance Designers," the experience felt like it took forever but was more than worth the struggle, and a real triumph. Many a day spent holed up in my local coffee haunt and in the home-office pouring over my own words and thoughts was far different—and far more difficult—than anyone could imagine. But in the end, such a proud incredible thing to walk into a bookstore in Los Angeles on a business trip, scoot over to the "design" section and just have one of those guilty look-sees… and actually find it sitting there, so far away from the midwestern coffee house it was written in.
Fast-forward, my publisher (Rockport Publishers) has writes to the manuscript so I've always known it could be used again, but who'd care to reuse my thoughts and curation again—right? I get a call from my good friend Donovan Beery drops me a note and says, "Congrats on the new book!" What?! Rockport had repurposed the manuscript for inclusion in an expanded series that took the habits from "100" to "365." Nice! Uh, thanks, I guess.
So… fast-forward again and a knock on the door brings a package from my publisher. Ah, they always send books out to former authors for reviews and such. Open the package… Well that looks familiar. It's the "365" book. but somehow it looks different. What the hell are those characters… WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!!! My book has been translated into Korean!!!! Holy crap! Needless to say the shock & awe was palpable and it's fun to be able to share this. Thank you to so many people who were involved in this whole process six years in the making; the staff at Rockport, Emily Potts, Bryn Mooth, the staff of the 'HOW Live' Design Conference and more. Thank you!
